I wonder if perhaps there ought to be a seperate article just on the "Imperial Guard", so as to clarify the part about it changing its name with each reign. --Davdi 20:52, 2 Oct 2005 (UTC)
Actually, for some reason, I'm not even sure that Khaavren was given the title brigadier. - Attjen
I thought that was at the end of Sethra Lavode. I've only read it once, so far, tho, so I'll have to go back and check. --Majikjon
Using Amazon Search Inside, I note that G'aereth was referred to as "Brigadier" in Five Hundred Years After, but I did not see this being applied to Khaavren in Sethra Lavode (book).
However, Phoenix (book) does say that it is the brigadier of the Phoenix Guard who resigns.
Whatever that's worth. Search Inside is only as good as the OCR+copy editors that Amazon has.
OK, actually checking the last few pages of Sethra Lavode (book), I see that Khaavren is made Marquis of Khaavren, and Count of Shallowbanks, but I don't see a promotion in rank in those pages.
With the caveat that Search Inside is a bit wearying to use, so I may not have looked hard enough.

Aha. I think I've got it, despite the lack of info as to when he is named brigadier. according to Teckla (pg 462 of the omnibus) Vlad refers to him as the "Brigadier of the Guards". So he maybe got promoted once the empire really got up and running.
