The game of Seven-Clawed-Jhereg is quite obviously based on the real-world game of "Texas Hold 'em" which is a popular form of poker that is enjoyed by Steven Brust, and which is also known as "Seven-toed Pete" (see references).
The description of the rules of Seven-Clawed-Jhereg appear in the Afterword portion of Sethra Lavode.
